The Inn The Hawthorn Inn is an elegant, Queen Anne-style Victorian home situated on 1.2 acres of lawn and gardens just north of the small, sophisticated sailing village of Camden, Maine. One of 66 homes listed in the National Register of Historical Places in the High Street Historic District, the Hawthorn was built in 1894 to take advantage of magnificent harbor views to the East and Mount Battie to the West. In fact, the Hawthorn is the only Camden inn that meets the mountains and the seato take license with Edna St. Vincent Millays description of Camden as the town where the mountains meet the sea.
A short walk to town or harbor, yet removed enough to ensure restful respite from the madding crowd, the Hawthorn also is a spectacular venue for weddings.
The Innkeeper A native of Lowell, MA, Maryanne Shanahan has lived and traveled worldwide throughout her varied career as a nurse, nurse administrator, publishing executive, restaurateur and business owner/publishing consultant. A New Englander at heart, Maryanne dreamed of returning one day to own and operate and bed and breakfast inn. Her dream came true in November of 2001 when she purchased the Hawthorn Inn. Maryanne loves the seacoast, revels in welcoming guests to her home, and thoroughly enjoys preparing delicious and nutritious meals. She is ably assisted by her mellow and energetic 16-year-old smooth fox terrier, Lizzie (Her Royal Highness Elizabeth Margaret!) | |
