A two course breakfast is served daily at 8:30. The first course is a fruit dish. Some of the favorites of our guests are the Baked Peach, Rum Raisin Pears, and Watermelon and Kiwi with Coconut Lime Creme. For the second course, Ted usually prepares sweet and savory dishes on alternate days. One morning may consist of Maine Blueberry Walnut Pancakes or Lemon Zest Blueberry French Toast. The savory dishes may include Sweet Potato Pancakes with Poached Egg topped with Creamed Caramelized Shallots and Poblano Peppers or a Spinach and Goat Cheese Frittata. We do not serve breakfast meats, although we do serve smoked salmon. We buy locally grown/produced, organic foods where possible. Selections of courses vary seasonally to match the weather and the availability of fresh produce. We are happy to accommodate special requests, please let us know about any food allergies or dietary restrictions when you make your reservation or when are checking in.
Our coffee was developed by the previous inn-keeper with a local coffee roaster, Rock City Coffee. It is a dark roast of beans from 4 different countries (India,Sumatra, Brazil and Guatemala). We also serve a French roasted decaf. For tea drinkers, there is a selection of Harney & Sons teas. Coffee and tea service is put out around 6:30am for our early risers.
Weather permitting, breakfast is served outdoors in the garden or on the terrace. During the colder months, breakfast is served in the dining room and/or the library. Generally seating is communal so that you can enjoy the fascinating stories other guests have to tell. We see guests from all over the world. Many of our guests tell us the breakfast and the conversation with other guests is best part of their trip. If, however, you need some quality alone time, please tell us and we will do the very best that we can to accommodate your request. We are also happy to make modifications to the timing of breakfast when asked. "To-go" breakfast bags can be prepared for breakfast on the run.
There is always a bowl of fruit available to snack on. Bottled water, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available in the common are all day.
